About the Upgrade - Background Cannondale 432cc motors built between March 2001 and May 2003 were manufactured with seven defects which pose a reliability and/or safety hazard. After purchasing the remaining inventory of Cannondale Motorsports, ATK began the work of re-engineering motor components to create solutions to overcome these defects. Attempts were made to inform owners about the potential destructive nature of the defects. Service bulletins were issued instructing that if the ATK Reliability Upgrade is applied to the motor before a failure, the cost of repair is significantly less than the cost to overhaul a motor destroyed by the "grenade effect" of the failure.
